Y@HOME is Taking Time to Reflect and Learn for Truth and Reconciliation Day
Today is National Truth and Reconciliation Day – a day to take time to reflect and learn about the tragic legacy of residential schools, the missing children, the families left behind and the Survivors of these institutions.
Today is a day where we can re-commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation in many ways - including learning about the many Indigenous cultures, the lands we are on, and familiarizing ourselves with the 94 Calls to Action.
If you are looking for ways to honour Truth and Reconciliation Day, we have put together some ideas below:
Wear an orange shirt to help raise awareness across Canada about the Indian Residential Schools and the continuing impacts on individuals, families and communities these have had. Visit Orange Shirt Society to learn more about the orange shirt, the ongoing generational impact of residential schools and the truth that every child matters.
Learn about the land and territory you are on or visiting - a good resource is https://native-land.ca/
Take part in a local Indigenous-led event or webinar
Support Indigenous artists – this could be by watching Indigenous-made content or directly purchasing from Indigenous-owned businesses
